Beat the Heat, Inc. was founded in 1982 by Sgt. Don
Robertson with the Sheriff's Office in Gainesville,
Florida. Since 1983, Beat the Heat has grown to over 200
members representing the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico,
Australia, and New Zealand. Beat the Heat, Inc. is a
non-profit 501(c)3 youth outreach and education program
and was incorporated as such in 1992.
Beat the Heat is
comprised of law enforcement officers and firemen who
dedicate their time and resources to educate and help
our youth. The teams are totally funded by donations and
dedication only! No tax dollars are used in the
operation of these teams. The race cars have developed
into one of the best tools available to knock down those
walls that many times exist between our youth and
figures of authority.
Beat the Heat averages over 700 events annually. In
2005, the event count surpassed 800. The programs range
from school events that focus on such topics as Drinking
and Driving, Drug Abuse, and Street Racing to benefit
children's charities. The teams also work with out youth
on the concept of team work. In 2005, the BTH teams came
in direct contact with over 2 million youth.
Please visit the official Beat the Heat website,
http://www.beattheheatinc.org. Here you will find
information and photos of all of our teams. The goals
and objectives of Beat the Heat are also on the site.
All Beat the Heat teams are required to be members of
the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) and/or the
International Hot Rod Association (IHRA). Each car is
required to meet these organizations strict safety
requirements. |
